Donghwa Chun

“Being an artist means having a burdensome role in life in terms of new creation, challenge, and experimentation. In the midst of these things, the artist goes through pain physically and spiritually to make the art. To be freed from the burdens, Chun simply looks back at himself as an artist and his life. “Burdens can be forms of suffering to a living creature, but it can also become a basis for a legendary story. I leave the marks of my life by using my body as a canvas. The burdens for an artist are like a bright moon on a canvas. The pain from being an artist becomes a bruise and looks like a beautiful sunset on a pottery.”

Donghwa Chun has been bringing to life his metaphoric perspective as an artist for about 30 years and pursuing the creation of marks in his life, with which the audience can empathize with.
