Participating Artists:

Ung Boo Kang

Ung Boo Kang began his career as a designer of TBC-TV (Seoul, South Korea) in 1967. He soon became the head art and design director of the MBC-TV (Seoul, South Korea) in 1969 and remained in the position until 1993.

Through his distinct approaches, Kang reminds the viewers of the value of time. He makes them question: “Out of the vast amounts of time in one’s life, how much is spent with real purpose, and how much is mindlessly thrown away?” As the structures also make the eye to move upwards, Kang’s paintings convey a message of hope. It presents the viewer with a glimpse of true human potential, that all of humanity is capable of reaching high for their dreams and striving continuously towards progress.

Hyun Jung Kim

HyunJung Kim uses the dots and codes of Braille in her work, to deliver meanings in language form, but also to create a visually decorative and abstract look. Kim currently makes gold crowns as mediators to remind viewers of the overlooked precious value and reason of each creation although it might be viewed as tenuous and worthless. Each crown has words in Braille on it and viewers are encouraged to look for the crown to wear with the precious value they have been given or will be given.

Sarah Shinyo Kim

Sarah Shinhyo Kim is a Korean-American artist currently living and working in the United States. As a way to explore human communication and relationships, Kim’s work focuses on the increasing popularization of ‘emoticon’ pop-imagery in the past decade. While these images, known colloquially as ‘emojis,’ are vehicles of individual emotional expression, their universal and semantically rich nature allows us to transcend cultural and linguistic barriers.
