Beyond the Textile - Hwa Soo Hwang

2019 Solo Exhibition

Bio

Hwa Soo Hwang, a textile designer from South Korea, believes that a flower is the definition of true beauty. She describes the flowers as having soft texture, curves, and scents, retained in her imagination, and it is this image that she paints in a moment of spontaneous inspiration.

It is Hwang’s belief that every woman deserves to feel beautiful; when she creates a design for women’s clothes, she strives to bring out the vitality, delicacy, and contemplative mind through each brushstroke in her work.

Hwang’s hand drawings are the basics of her work in textile design. She spends most of her time focusing on the basics to emphasize the feminine and elegant image of her design. She also seeks to find the fabric material that perfectly matches the characteristics of the flowers from her hand drawings for maximum effect. Having designed thousands of images, Hwang’s extensive knowledge of fabric art is both unique and timeless.

In addition, Hwang has 25 years of experience in the textile field, owned and operated 2 highly successful private businesses, and exhibited her work in China, Italy, Paris, France, and Seoul, Korea.

Statement

Textile design can be found in linens, wallpapers, and most importantly clothes. It is always a part of our contemporary lives.

I started fine art almost thirty years ago because I wanted our lives to be more beautiful. I see flowers as the embodiment of true beauty. Every curve, every stroke in my painting brings the piece closer to the beauty I want to depict. I believe that every person deserves to have a piece of beauty.

In my recent work, textile design patterns are melded into the composition of my paintings. These textile designs follow current trends in fashion and offer a surprise element to this new work.
